The national competition of the 4th edition of the Art&Science Across Italy project, which aims at bringing students closer to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) topics, developed by the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN), the CERN and the Federico II University of Naples, was closed. Among the 1300 proposed works and 7100 participants, there are 54 authors of the works considered most meaningful.
Currently, 96 works developed by 280 students were included in the exhibition called “Creare immaginando” at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN) which was open until 13 May 2024, the final stage of an exhibition that has been taking the works of these promising young artists across Italian cities since last November.
During the awarding ceremony, which took place at the Acacia Theatre of Naples, the works were assessed by a jury of experts in art, science, scientific communication; the winners were then awarded with scholarships that will allow them to take part in a master on the relationship between art and science at the INFN National Gran Sasso Laboratory (23-26 June 2024) or at CERN in Geneva (1-5 September 2024).
From physics to biology, from geology to mathematics, from natural sciences to chemistry, the topics that have inspired the students’ works cover all the scientific disciplines and were developed after a two-year path during which they participated in activities and seminars organized by researchers of different INFN sections and local universities. Along with the most meaningful works developed during this 4th edition, the MANN exhibition rooms also host some works from the INFN and CERN collections, made by international artists who took part in the project of the CMS “Art@CMS” experiment in 2021, and by other artists who have been involved in this project over the years.
