Bologna has recently hosted the kick-off meeting “Research 7+, a bridge to science”, the event that has launched the new Engagement Group promoted and coordinated by National Research Council (CNR), in agreement with the Ministry of University and Research (MUR), a team that will provide insights to stimulate the G7 ministerial meetings on research. In detail, the team brings together the Research Organizations and the Financing Agencies of G7 countries and Spain from 2024 on.
“The Group R7+ is a spontaneous initiative of research institutions: it will be an independent and autonomous body aimed at bringing together common points of view and contribute to the actions that the G7 Science and Technology ministerial July meeting will decide to take,” said CNR President Maria Chiara Carrozza.
To contribute to the international ministerial meeting of the Group of 7 that will take place in Bologna and Forlì under Italy’s Presidency, from 9 to 11 July 2024, the Team has started to work on drafting a joint declaration on the most important science and technology challenges the Member Countries will have to face in the immediate future, that will then submitted to the Minister. “I am deeply convinced that the future of our societies, the well-being of our citizens, the security and growth of our countries will increasingly depend on our ability to address the main scientific and technological challenges of our times. Moreover, I am especially satisfied of the attention that the Research7+ will pay to Artificial Intelligence: this is a key theme that is redesigning the global debate and that requires a convergence among G7 countries in order to ensure their ethical and safe progress.”
“The integration of research institutions and financing agencies into the decision-making process was a strategic choice that strengthens the ecosystem of knowledge,” said Ministry of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini. “The setting up of Research7+ during the current Italian G7 Presidency will make a very high-profile tool to promote dialogue and sharing available to all also in the years to come. Increasing citizens’ well-being and security, winning the challenges of energy and digital transitions, governing Artificial Intelligence change require a collaboration and cooperation program. The joint declaration is a precious contribution for the Science and Technology G7, having the priority goals of enhancing fundamental research in deep technologies, fostering cooperation among large research infrastructures and promoting open and reliable science.”
