Vesuvius, 3 days to learn about the volcano

From Sunday 17 March to Tuesday 19 March 2024, a 3-day guided tour has been organized to celebrate the 80th anniversary since the last eruption of the Vesuvius, to visit the historic headquarters of the Vesuvian Observatory and the places of the volcano, open to families and students of the schools located in the “red zone” identified by the National Civil Protection Plan.

The program of events, entitled “KNOW AND EXPERIENCE VESUVIUS, 80 YEARS AFTER THE LAST ERUPTION“, was organized by the Vesuvian Observatory of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV-OV), the Civil Protection Department (DPC), the Civil Protection of Campania Region and the Vesuvius National Park Authority, in collaboration with the Regional School Office for Campania and the Municipality of Ercolano and aims at offering the possibility of rediscovering the volcano, the phenomena associated with it, the historical memory of the places, as well as promoting civil protection activities through guided tours that can increase knowledge about the volcano and awareness of the risks.

The tours are free of charge and guided by staff of the INGV Vesuvian Observatory, the Vesuvius National Park Authority, the Civil Protection Department and the Civil Protection of the Campania Region.
