MUR, Minister Anna Maria Bernini’s policy guidelines presented

The Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, presented the Ministry’s policy guidelines to the Italian Parliament.

As the document states, the main objective is to strengthen and enhance initiatives to support scientific research, both fundamental and applied, in all fields of knowledge. The document emphasises the need to promote access to education and to increase the number of young people entering higher education by protecting and ensuring the right to education in the current context marked by the impact of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.

In particular, on the research front, the Ministry intends to promote the mobility of high-profile figures between universities, research infrastructures and companies, and the recruitment of the most deserving candidates at a lower average age.

In order to improve Italy’s attractiveness, the focus will be on direct recruitment processes for researchers and on the recruitment of international researchers. The offer of PhD scholarships and innovative PhD programmes will also be increased. In addition, NRRP funds will be used to create a national research ecosystem that will rely on the networking capacity of universities, institutions and businesses. Within this new ecosystem, the Italian Fund for Science and the Italian Fund for Applied Science will be strengthened.
