The Ministry of University and Research (MUR) has published a decree regarding the distribution of funds to support Research Projects of National Interest selected under the PRIN 2022 call for proposals. Out of more than 7,800 applications submitted, almost 3.700 will receive funding, with a total allocation of 741 million euros.
This budget will be distributed among the three domains identified by the European Research Council (ERC): life sciences; mathematics, physical sciences, information and communication, engineering, universe and earth sciences; social sciences and humanities. Thirty percent of the allocated funds, corresponding to approximately 223 million euros, will be granted to researchers under 40. Each research project will receive funding up to a maximum of 250,000 euros.
The proposals received under the PRIN 2022 call were assessed by Evaluation Committees appointed by the Ministry – one for each research field – made up of a minimum of five and a maximum of fifteen scientific experts selected by the National Committee for Research Evaluation (CNVR).
The PRIN programme finances two-year projects which, due to their complexity and nature, require the collaboration of several research units. More specifically, the scheme aims to promote and support the national research system, strengthen interaction between universities and research organizations as well as promoting Italian participation in EU initiatives.
