Associazione Italiana del Libro (Italian Book Association) has published the 2022 call for applications for the Giancarlo Dosi National Science Communication Prize (Premio nazionale divulgazione scientifica – Giancarlo Dosi). The Prize, now in its tenth edition, awards Italian and foreign researchers, teachers at all levels of education, journalists, scientists and authors of science communication books published for the first time in Italian in 2021 or 2022.

Self-published, electronic or digital books are also accepted, while books that have already been submitted to previous editions of the Prize or new editions of books published in previous years are excluded.

The initiative aims to strengthen the book and reading sector in Italy, especially the non-fiction sector, and stress the central role that information and science communication play for the progress of society by fostering young people’s interest in scientific knowledge and contributing to the promotion of a widespread culture of innovation and knowledge.

The prize includes a section on books by Italian authors or translated into Italian, and it covers 5 scientific fields: a) mathematical, physical and natural sciences, b) life and health sciences, c) engineering and architecture, d) humanities, history and literature, e) legal, economic and social sciences.

It is possible to participate with one or more books by registering and submitting the books by the first deadline of 30 June 2022 or – for applications submitted after the deadline, with a contribution of 10 euro – no later than 31 July 2022.

The books will be evaluated by a scientific committee and a jury made up of representatives from the worlds of science, academia, research and communication.

At the end of the evaluation phase, the following prizes will be awarded: 1 prize to the overall winner, 1 prize to the winner in each of the 5 scientific fields, 1 prize to the overall winner among authors under the age of 35. At the discretion of the scientific committee, prizes may also be awarded to publishing companies that have distinguished themselves for the effectiveness of their science communication, also aimed at a specific target group or at young people.

On the call webpage it is possible to read the call regarding the third edition of the Junior Video Contest di Divulgazione Scientifica 2022 (Junior Video Contest of Science Communication)
